My name is Eric Dama and I am from Plano, Texas. I am a sophomore majoring in journalism at the University of Oklahoma.
As soon as I arrived on campus I began working for the university’s student newspaper, The Oklahoma Daily. Thus far in my three semesters with The Daily, I have served as a weekly columnist, the beat writer for both the men’s basketball team and the baseball team, and an assistant writer to the football beat.
In addition to writing, I have experience in many of the other aspects of journalism. I record audio podcasts, such as game recaps or debate-style discussions with fellow staff writers, for The Daily’s website. In my Multimedia Journalism class, I wrote blogs and put together news videos about the 2008 Presidential Election for NewsOK.com, the website for The Oklahoman.
Although most of my experience comes from work done behind the camera, I currently am aiming to gain more experience working both in front of the camera and on the mic — with broadcast and radio. With today’s rapidly changing journalism landscape, I believe it is important to have as much experience with and knowledge of the various types of journalism mediums.
